I’m Steven Holmes , an experienced architect, software engineer, and infrastructure specialist.
Currently I’m working full-time at Quidkey, a startup providing global multi-currency pay by bank, as their technical lead.

Experience #
I’ve helped multiple start-ups and scale-ups build systems that hold up under real-world pressure:
- Fanduel - As a Principal Engineer and later Lead Architect, I designed and built systems that handled tens of thousands of requests per second during the company’s hyper-growth phase.
- Symphonic Software (now part of Ping Identity) As Head of Architecture, I transformed Symphonic’s access control product from a prototype into a scalable, resilient, and operationally viable system used by several major banks to process millions of daily transactions.
- Ping Identity After joining as a Senior Architect through the Symphonic acquisition (which won the UK Business Angels Association Exit of the Year award), I re-architected Symphonic’s on-premises software to operate within Ping’s multi-tenant, cloud-based SaaS platform.
- Recast As Head of Architecture, I improved the platform’s scalability and resilience, enabling delivery of large video streaming events under high load.
- Monzo Bank As a Staff Engineer in the Infrastructure Platform team, I worked on compute, networking, observability, and platform abstractions for Monzo’s ~3000 services, handling tens of thousands of requests per second with high availability.
